How to fold a shirt the NAVY way

As a proud Navy Veteran owned business, LORD WALLINGTON wanted to share with you how to fold a shirt the NAVY way. US Sailors and Marines spend months out to sea with their entire lives packed away nicely in coffin racks. How do they fit everything in these small spaces and always look impeccable? Well for one, they only pack what they need and two; they fold every single article of clothing a specific way to maximize the little space they’re given.

To a civilian, learning how to fold your shirts might seem an insignificant fact to know (yes, yes, we know you just throw it in your closet only to have your girlfriend remind you later to please fold your stuff), but to a Sailor or Marine it is one of the first lessons in discipline and attention to detail they receive in boot camp. Having a squared away skivvy stack can later mean the difference between life and death in the fleet or when you have boots on the ground.

So knowing the importance of attention to detail, here is how to fold a shirt the NAVY way:

Step 1: Spread your shirt out.

Step 2: Fold the sleeves in and fold down at a 45-degree angle (same for both long and short sleeves).

Step 3: Fold the right side of your shirt in ¼ the way. Same with left side.

Step 4: Fold the bottom 1/3rd up.

Step 5: Fold the top 1/3rd down.

And there you have it, a nicely folded shirt the Navy way. Not only does this ensure maximum use of space, it also keeps your shirts from unnecessary wrinkling which comes in handy at your next uniform inspection….or date night.

  • Sir I’m not trying to be rude. But that’s not the way we folded our shirts while I was in the Navy.
